Vuna by NAVU

A free companion app for amputees and the people who support them.

In South Africa the wait for a prosthesis can last years, with few answers and few people who have been through it. Vuna helps amputees keep a simple record of how they are doing, find exercises and guides suited to their situation, and reach people who understand.

What Vuna does

Daily check-in

Four taps to record how you and your body are doing, so you can see how things change over time.

Exercises at home

Chosen for people in a situation like yours, from preparing for surgery to walking with a prosthesis. At most you need a chair.

People who understand

Stories from other amputees, a community to talk to, and practical resources gathered in one place.

Built for low-cost Android phones and expensive data. The check-in, exercises and crisis information work offline. Available in English and Afrikaans, with isiXhosa and isiZulu to follow.

What Vuna is not

Vuna is a support and information companion for amputees and their families. It is not a medical service and does not give medical advice, diagnosis or treatment, and it does not monitor your health. Always talk to a qualified health professional about your health. In an emergency, call 112.

Tell us you want to use Vuna.

Vuna is in development and not yet open to the public. We will contact the people who register, starting with a small pilot group. Choose the option that fits you: it opens an email to info@navugroup.com with a few questions already filled in.

I am an amputee

Or you are preparing for an amputation. Vuna is for you whatever prosthesis you use, and whether you have one at all.

I support an amputee

A family member, partner, friend or carer. Vuna is for you too, with guides for supporting the person you care for.

I am a health professional

Prosthetists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, doctors and nurses who would like to suggest Vuna to patients or review its content.

I represent an organisation

Peer support networks, NGOs, hospitals and funders who want to bring Vuna to the people they work with.

A family member or clinician can write on someone's behalf. We use your details only to contact you about Vuna, and you can ask us to delete them at any time. Please do not include medical details in your email.
